The budget proposes sweeping cuts across state government. As our fiscal sponsor, the Michigan League for Public Policy, explains, the plan would cut $5 billion from health care, human services, food safety, environmental health, and other critical areas. Incarcerated people would be particularly affected by reductions to health care, food services, and essential programming. Additional cuts would jeopardize constitutionally required public defense, services for young people in the juvenile justice system, and court operations.
