Once individuals have paid their debt to society, blocking them from meaningful employment serves no one. Preventing access to work not only harms families—it can also increase the likelihood of reoffending.
The last decade has brought mixed results for criminal justice reform. The 2010s ushered in thoughtful state and federal policies that improved public safety and reduced costs for taxpayers. But rising concerns about crime in the 2020s have stalled much of that progress.
